Faso Koom is the result of a long-standing cooperation between Burkinabé and Dutch partners. The beginnings of this collaboration date back to 2009, with the signing of a partnership agreement between the Nakanbé Water Agency (AEN) and the Dutch Water Agency Reech En Wiedden, for the implementation of the AO AEN project (Support for the Operationalization of the Nakanbé Water Agency).
In 2014, a framework cooperation agreement was signed between the Gourma Water Agency (AEG) and World Waternet (WWn). Satisfied with the results of these two agreements, the Ministry in charge of Water in Burkina Faso submitted a request to the Dutch Water Authorities to establish a collaboration framework between the five water agencies in Burkina Faso and their Dutch counterparts.
This initiative culminated on October 27, 2016, in Ouagadougou, with the signing of a collaboration protocol called Faso Koom, aimed at supporting the operationalization of water agencies in Burkina Faso.
Today, after numerous institutional developments in the Netherlands and Burkina Faso, Faso Koom has become an association working to promote Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and related resources. Faso Koom thus views IWRM as a lever for development through the implementation of primarily community-based projects in collaboration with various partners, in the spirit of the Water-Energy-Climate-Ecosystems Nexus.
