In Burkina Faso, 39 species of invasive plants (aquatic and terrestrial) have been counted. Among them, some have a negative impact on the development of economic activities related to water resources.
To address this issue, the National Program for Integrated Water Resources Management 2016-2030 (PN GIRE) has included the fight against invasive species in its priorities.
That is why the FASO KOOM II project has financed a trip to Benin for exchanges and experience sharing of local water committees of the NEA.
Thus, from July 3 to 7, 2022, representatives of CLE Massili, CLE Ziga Ouest, CLE Bagré Aval Sud, the Association of fishermen of Berenga (Kalsaka) and Burkina Ecolo Tech are in Benin.
With the supervision of the General Management of the Nakanbé Water Agency, the Permanent Secretariat for the Integrated Management of Water Resources, and Faso Koom, the CLE of Nakanbé will meet Beninese structures specialized in the valorization of invasive aquatic plants.
Indeed, in Benin, ACED, PNE, the NGO JEJEV are specialized in the valorization of the water hyacinth in compost, bio gas, ethanol gel and basketry products.
It will be for the CLE of the AEN, to be inspired by the approaches of valorization used in Benin to reinforce the fight against the invasive aquatic plants in Burkina Faso. It should be noted that this mission is a first for the CLE
